“Lights,
Camera, Learning!” is an introductory digital filmmaking
and visual literacy curriculum taught by the educational
outreach staff of The Robinson Film Center, a
Shreveport, LA-based not-for-profit organization.
Designed to offer students the opportunity to write,
shoot, produce, and market their own original short
films under the guidance of experienced professionals,
“Lights, Camera, Learning!” also helps students develop
a deeper understanding of the power of the media to
communicate, create public discourse, and affect
change. The end result is an original film created by
students, whenever possible accompanied by a public film
premiere and discussion. The typical classroom
experience takes place three hours per week (usually one
hour per day for three days), for five to seven weeks.
The
primary objective of Lights, Camera, Learning!is to
ensure that students themselves are responsible for
creating the story, developing the script, shooting the
film and developing marketing materials for the film.
While Robinson Film Center staff members are continually
providing guidance, advice, and encouragement during the
process, we pride ourselves on keeping the camera in the
hands of students.
Lightscameralearning.com is not only a platform for
exposing the outstanding work of “Lights, Camera,
Learning!” students – it’s also a place where youth
media educators from across the United States can
upload, share, and discuss original short films created
in their classes.
